Description: Students will work in pairs creating story problems using multiplication alone or in a two-part problem with addition or subtraction. They will use the “Multiplying for Problem Solvers” worksheet to create the problems and use pictures to illustrate or help solve the problems. They will share their problems with the class so that all classmates will have a chance to do all problems. In grades 2-4, learning the multiplication tables is a main requirement. Also, learning how to relate math to real life situations is an important skill. In doing this activity they will learn by creating their own story problems and then by solving the problems created by their friends as well.

Lesson Plan: Parts of a Group
Subject: Math
Grade: 1-3
Description: Students will learn about parts of a group and how to express them as fractions. Students will create a page(s) showing parts of a group as fractions. Students will begin by working with manipulatives to form groups. We will work on the concept of equal parts (groups) and the number of groups. Then we will talk about a portion (fraction) of the groups and how to express that. Once the concept has been covered and practiced, students will work to create models to illustrate a variety of fractions.
