Are you trying to integrate subjects with Common Core?
This is the perfect way to integrate math, reading and writing (and many times-social studies)!
One of my guided math groups is called "math literacy". I put a children's book, math literacy card and cute stationary in a bag. Students read the book (individually), that's based on a math standard, and respond to the prompt. This set is geared toward patterns standards. Included are 12 cards. I have also included a list of books you will need and their guided reading levels (ranging from F to X). I get many of my books from the public library or our school's media center.
The math literacy cards are based on the following books:
Patterns in Peru
Lots and Lots of Zebra Stripes
Mr. Noisy’s Book of Patterns
Nature’s Paintbrush: The Patterns & Colors Around You
Eight Hands Round: A Patchwork Alphabet
Beep, Beep, Vroom, Vroom
No Dodos: A Counting Book of Endangered Animals
A-B-A-B-AA: A Book of Pattern Play
You will need to check out the books, print the cards on card stock and laminate for durability, put them in a bag and you're ready to go!
