Perfect for March Madness time, this activity challenges students in a variety of ways. Students are required to determine the vertex of 8 different quadratic functions using their knowledge of vertex form and completing the square. Then they need to determine which vertex is closest to the origin (by graphing, the distance formula, or common sense). I think it touches on several concepts all at once in a fun way!
You can also make different versions (which vertex is furthest from the origin, which vertex is most northeastern?) The possibilities are endless. Answer key is included. Feedback is always appreciated!
