Math models can be extremely helpful in helping students understand different math problems. They are especially helpful for solving story problems.
The hard part about using models can be getting kids to remember and understand all the different models.
I put together a sheet that shows examples of six important models used in both addition/subtraction and multiplication/division. I also included a sheet to practice showing the same equation using four different models. It will be helpful for students from kindergarten to fifth grade because it can be used with both whole numbers and fractions. It is an easy way to differentiate for all of the learners in your class.
The model sheet would also be helpful for parents who are getting used to all the new math.
