This Math Modeling PowerPoint presents conceptual model examples for grades 2-5 math calculation concepts. It is an appropriate professional development training presentation for teachers new to math modeling, for paraprofessionals who will work with students, and even for parents wishing to understand how their child is being taught to use a model to show his/her thinking.
Modeling is the fourth of eight mathematical practices. Students are asked to apply the mathematics they know to solve problems in contextual situations.
The models presented include bar, place value, number line, ratio table, and area. Each grade level slide of examples is followed by a “Your Turn” so participants can try using the models.
