Adding Decimals Math Money Project - Real World Activity
This PDF file includes:
- Directions Page
- " 16 items on shelves" (colored and black and white)
- 3 different pages of "shopping carts"
- A "receipt" page for the students to fill in
The directions of this project:
Students will pretend to go shopping at Walmart. They will look at the pictures on the “shelves” and find six “items”. There are 3 levels of difficulty (Level one being the easiest). The student can either do all the levels (using 3 pages of shopping carts and receipts) or you can choose one level for the student. In level one, the student will find 6 items they would buy from Walmart. In level two, the student will find 6 items that equal less than $12.00. In level 3, the student will find 6 items that equal a total of $16.50. There can be different combinations that can equal $16.50 with six items so each student might have different items in their “shopping cart.”
Students will cut the items that they chose and glue them on the provided page that has a picture of a shopping cart.
I included 3 pages of shopping carts which the student or the teacher can choose which one to glue the items on. One of them has a picture of a girl, another of a boy, and another without a person (just the cart black and white).
Lastly, I included a page where the students will highlight the items they put in their shopping carts and a receipt for them to fill in. The receipt will show the six items they bought , their prices, and the total of what they spent.
