These cards support the Math Expressions curriculum from Houghton Mifflin, but they can be a useful addition to any first grade math class! This file includes “Math Mountain” cards for partners of 5-10. For each number, you will find:
1. Completed math mountain cards (use for instruction, as answer keys, or as flashcards)
2. Missing addend cards
3. Missing sum cards
There is also a blank set of math mountains.
-Cut out the cards and laminate them so students can write with dry erase markers.
-Store the sets in separate folders or bags with the “Partners of…” labels so students can work on mastering particular partners.
-Use binder rings to organize centers or individual sets for students.
-Use the “missing sum” cards to create a sorting center- mix together two sets of “missing sums” (example: 8 and 9) and have students sort the cards into the correct groups.
-Extension activity: have students write equations to match the math mountains.
