In this full period activity, students will apply their knowledge of percents, discounts, markup, tax, tip, and commission to a fun, restaurant context! The download includes 4 stations, a student sheet with QR codes to check their work, and an answer key!
At station 1, students will take the role of a friend planning to go to eat with their best friend. They will decode iPhone text messages to calculate general percent problems.
At station 2, students will take the role of a restaurant patron. They will use the Math Munch Cafe menu to solve problems involving tip. They will also complete spiral review problems on area of circles, and equivalent ratios.
At station 3, students will take the role of a waiter at the Math Munch Cafe, answering questions involving commission, tax and discount.
At station 4, students will take the role of the owner of the cafe, answering questions involving markup and discount. They will also complete two inequality spiral review problems.
This is a great cooperative learning activity, giving students real world applications to the math curriculum...and it's fun!
