Math Muse is a 2-part system.
First: You have them practice searching for clue words and answering example of word problems for the following operations: multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, and multi-step. This helps them learn how these operations looks in a word problem, spot clue words quickly and see how they used in many different ways.
Then: You give them a blank answer sheet with a specific answer (the example provided for the teacher to pass out is '6'.) So then they must create a multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, and multi-step word problem that uses clue words and comes to the specified answer. So now they are using what they were finding to CREATE! They create all 5 then place them on a sticky note and stick them under a designated spot in your classroom. You can use these student-created examples for all kinds of things: review, test review, test questions, gallery walks, flash cards, and more!
Blank Answer Sheet for Practice Word Problems
16 pages with 5 words problems on each (80 words problems from simple whole number to decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers!)
'6' sheet for practicing creation
blank answer sheet for student answer for creation
Clue words handout for student reference
Pages start out easier and go much more complicated. So you can assign as needed. Centered around 5th grade so high 4th graders may enjoy the challenge while low 8th graders may take advantage of the strategies. You may have certain groups working on easier while higher students have an opportunity for more challenge.
Keep an eye out for a second set as well as other grade levels to be announced. Thanks and have a blessed school year!
