I have created these math journal prompts to help my students practice word problems with a variety of depth of knowledge levels. My students tend to have difficulty solving word problems, so I use Math Problem Solving Notebooks as a math station each week. Students underline or highlight important information and then solve the problem. They must show their work and then explain how they arrived at the answer. At the end of the week I collect the notebook and check the students work. This helps me determine which skills students need more instruction and practice. Included in this file is a rubric to help you determine which students have mastered the math skill and which students may need more instruction.
You can use these prompts in individual or group math notebooks, as formative assessments, instruction for guided math groups, task cards in math stations or any way that works for you! In this set I have created 4 questions for each Number and Base Ten Common Core Standard. Use in whichever way works for your classroom! I have also included an answer key and formative assessment rubric.
