Who doesn’t love ninjas? Students love the fun, excitement and high-energy that ninjas bring. Bring that same level of excitement to your Math lessons and centers.

I actually created these cards for use in my own classroom. We began a lesson on Numbers and Base Ten, and I needed number cards for students to draw from. I realized that I didn’t have any. I tried using a regular deck of cards, but that was limiting for me. Selecting two cards and then deciding which number to create was a big challenge for several of my students. So…Ninjas on the Deck Math Number Cards were born.

• Number cards featuring numbers from 0-100.
•Once printed, each card will have a ninja on the front and a number printed on the back.
•There are 12 different ninjas pictured throughout the number cards.
•You will have to print double-sided to “create” the cards.
•Want to add a little pizazz? Print the cards on colored cardstock

The math number cards have great flexibility and will allow you to create countless tasks for your students to perform. You can differentiate activities by varying the number of cards and the focus numbers for each student/group.

With the Math Number Cards, your students can be challenged to:
•Count by 5s- Have students pull out all of the “by 5s” numbers.
•Count by 10s- Have students pull out all of the “by 10” numbers.
•Students can then copy the numbers into an Interactive Notebook or Math Journal
•Variation- Remove all of the 5s or 10s and give students index cards to write the missing numbers on.
•Place numbers in sequential order
•Select a number to build for Numbers and Base Ten
•Practice the number before/the number after
•Create addition problems - For a challenge- give students higher numbered cards to add together, OR give them 3 cards, etc...
•Create subtraction problems
•Have students pull a card (the answer) and create a question based on that answer.
•Play “What comes next?” by having students select one card from the deck. Then, have them state what number would come next (or before).
•Students can pull a card from the deck and be directed to tell 10 more or ten less.
•Place the numbers in sequential order
•Play “Find the Missing Number” by laying out several number cards. Leave a few numbers out. Have students place the missing numbers correctly.
•Practice counting from 1-100
•Find ten more/ten less
•Sort the math cards into a pile of “Even” or “Odd”
•For students in upper grades, use the cards to create fractions. For example, the first number/card that a student selects can be used to establish a numerator. The second card can be the denominator. Have students write the fraction. If the fraction is improper, have them turn it into a proper fraction. Students could then draw to show the fraction.
•Younger students can be given a set number/smaller number of cards and be instructed to count/state the numbers in order, or as they see them. You can also have students arrange specific cards in the correct order.

The mathematical activities that these cards can be used for are vast! Just select the number of cards and which numbers (or all of them) that you would like each student or group of students to interact with. Print the cards on cardstock for durability and laminate them to increase longevity. You may want to print a few sets for accessibility to multiple students and/or groups of students.

Use the number cards in:
•Math Tubs/Centers
•Small Group
•Independent student work
•Partner Work
