NUMBER RELATIONSHIPS: This is a student centered educational tool that is meant to complement an intermediate math program. It enables students to participate in the inquiry process and further develop their mathematical skills from an individual and group exploratory mode.
Each package is organized according to a specific set of expectations as mandated by the Ministry of Education in Ontario. Each package can also serve as the foundation for developing a unit.
The objective of these math passport packages is to provide students with multiple opportunities to engage in “math talk” during the inquiry process while determining a logical solution to a problem.
Each package includes:
a) A handout outlining all of the expectations addressed in the math challenges
b) An assessment rubric that can be used for assessments
c) A teaching instruction page
d) Ten math challenge posters
e) A two-page math passport graphic organizer for students to use while completing the challenges.
f) An answer key
Note: The answers for the multiple choice are not solutions; instead they math processes and/or descriptions.
One multiple choice answer is logical and will lead towards solving the problem accurately, whereas the other three are either illogical ways to solve a problem or mathematically incorrect.
