Math Performance Task
This NO PREP math performance task encourages students to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. In these math performance tasks, students will solve problems involving a fall fair. These tasks encourage problem solving, critical thinking and discussion.
This packet includes:
• Task #1: Fall Fair Supplies
Students are tasked with helping Scarecrow Sam buy supplies for the fall fair. Students use information in a table to solve problems about supplies he has already selected to purchase. Then students must spend the rest of the money. This task practices essential addition, subtraction and multiplication skills.
• Task #2: Fair Midway Design Challenge
Students practice “groups of” which is essential in multiplication success. Students are tasked with creating a fair midway set up to seat 60 while using tables that seat 5, 6 or 10. Students also choose their favorite design and explain why they like it the best. This allows for creativity and for you to really see how your students are thinking!
• Task #3: A Night at the Fair schedule
This task provides an opportunity for students to practice telling time. Students create a schedule for a night at the fall fair. Students will put the activities in order and then write the start time for each activity. (This task comes in four levels to differentiate based on student understanding of time)
• Bonus: Letter and narrative writing activities
