Many times students had difficulty understanding the question to apply their knowledge of numeracy to resolve Mathematical problems. Especially since French is their second language.
One day, I asked my students to act out a problem they were having difficulty understanding. This helped them to understand what the question was asking and then, following clear steps, they were able to solve the problem.
The dramatization in class also allowed the students with lower numeracy and/or literacy skills, to understand what the question was asking. The dramatic play, often through the use of manipulatives, allowed for question and answer. It was in fact, a safe way to permit students who were apprehensive about Math to do Math without any personal “Drama”.
From this experience DRAMATHICS was born!
