Make math fun with a weekly Math Problem/Puzzle!!!
You can do this in many ways, but I put a new problem up in the classroom each week for students to solve. Each student is only allowed to submit one answer each week. I allow them to ask their parents or siblings for help as well. At the end of the week, I choose one answer randomly from the answer box. If that student has the correct answer, then they are the winner for the week. I have some prizes I bought from a stationary store that they can choose from. I look through the others and give praise to students who got it correct, but only one student per week wins the prize.
There are different levels of of puzzles, depending on the mathematical ability of your students. There are also puzzles based on different math strands, so you can link it to the units you are covering or make it something that stands apart. In addition, detailed answers to each puzzle are included on the following page of the document.
What is included? There are 2 documents. One is filled with all 103 math problems/puzzles. This document is A4 landscape and each page has a puzzle with words, graphics or images. The following page is the answer to the previous puzzle. They are black and white, for easy printability. These weekly puzzles fit on the second document, the poster. This poster is in full color and is set up as A3 landscape. This poster can be laminated and used all year as a background for the smaller A4 puzzle sheets.
