These project-based activities are a way to enrich your high-achieving students through independent work study, while you are able to focus on providing instruction and support to your on level and approaching level students. They cover all four of the first grade domains.
activities were created based on the first grade Common Core State Standards. They come in both color and black and white copies, so you can chose which you’d like to use. They can be used by any students or teachers who teach skills related to the Common Core State Standards.
While the first six activities of each set are based on the first grade CCSS, the last two activities are based on the second grade CCSS for your students who are really ready for a challenge. They are written using Bloom’s Taxonomy
vocabulary (bold words on each activity sheet) and left without any specific directions on HOW to complete the activity (on purpose), to meet those higher-level, critical thinking skills. These activities may be completed in one academic period (by your quick thinking, fast working students), but were written with the goal of truly being a project-based learning experience, that may take several days to complete.
Also included is a guide on how to successfully incorporate these enrichment activities into your daily schedule. It includes:

♦ Encouraging enrichment for all students
In my classroom, the students who work on these enrichment activities varies lesson to lesson. I base my decision on whether or not that student needs whole group instruction, or if they are able to complete the lesson without any prior instruction. If a student can demonstrate to me that they can complete the math activity, before I have even given any instruction, they are ready for an enrichment activity.
These activities can also be used by your students as a math center or during PBL time.
