Math Reminders are given to students in class to "remind" them of the expectations I have set for them each and every day. If a student does not follow the classroom rules, they are given a Math Reminder.
I do this in my class instead of automatically giving students a detention or sending them to the principal's office. The student has the choice to either complete the math reminder or not. If not, they are given a morning detention.
I like this behavior intervention because it gives students some control over what their punishment will be. If he or she finishes the Math Reminder, all is forgiven and we move on. Student's almost always do the Math Reminder because it beats the alternative!
This works in my classroom and can work for you.
