Connect Four, is a fun and engaging math review game, which allows students to work with others at their skill level (three differentiated levels), while engaging in a whole class game. The goal is for students to solve one problem at a time as a group, have it checked by their teacher and then work to connect-four of their color post-its on a whole class game board (projected on smartboard).
As a teacher in an inclusion classroom, my co-teacher and I often struggle to play many popular review games, such as jeopardy and others which focus on students solving a problem/answering a question all at once. It is difficult and often discouraging to many students who may work slower than others, to have a game which focuses on time and is “one size fits all”. But ALL students love playing a game and moving around while learning…
That is why in this game we split the students up by levels, and allow them to work with others at their level, while simultaneously playing a whole class game. During this game we have not had one instance of a student giving up, becoming upset or self-conscious by their abilities. They all felt confident and excited to work through the math problems as a group, and were fully engaged the entire time.
By purchasing this file you will receive:
-Teacher directions and tips, including pictures of how I set it up
-Student rules to review with your class prior to beginning
-A game board to project onto your smartboard or other projector
-Three different levels of questions for your below level, on level and above level students
-An answer key for each level of questions
-Student answer sheet with a space for the teacher to check the answer
I genuinely hope that you find this game to be just as successful for you and your kiddies, as we have within my classroom. Eliminating the social, emotional and academic boundaries which often discourage students from participating in games is the biggest success I could ask for.
