This product contains 3 fabulous review projects your students will LOVE! The projects review various standards and are perfect for review activities, enrichment projects, or simply at the end of each math unit.
Project #1: Being a Architect
The project has students redesign their school building in order to review all the 4th grade common core geometry standards and perimeter and area standards including:
- Lines, Segments, Rays
- Angles (acute, obtuse, right)
- Perpendicular and parallel lines
- 2-D shapes
- Lines of Symmetry
- Finding the area of rectangles and squares
- Find the perimeter of shapes
It allows them to create a blueprint for a new school building. It gives them requirements for the various rooms that should be included, how to determine measurements of the rooms, the geometry requirements, and the measurement requirements.
Students can use large chart paper to draw out their blueprint, color code the various geometry requirements, and find and label the various measurement requirements. A rubric is included for grading.
Project #2: Building a Candy Store
The project has students create their own candy store in order to review all the 4th grade common core fraction standards including:
- Equivalent Fractions
- Comparing Fractions
- Ordering Fractions
- Adding & Subtracting Fractions with unlike denominators
- Multiplying Fractions by whole numbers
It allows them to create a name, logo, and slogan for their candy store. It then has them research candy recipes (lots of website links are provided in this product). They must use recipes that have fractions in them.
The last page of the project has them create word problems using their fractions. They must include all the concepts above in their word problems. A rubric is included for grading.
Project #3: Creating a Theme Park
The project has students create a theme park in order to review all the 4th grade common core place value, operations, money, time, and measurement standards include:
- Place Value
- Comparing Numbers
- Rounding Numbers
- Money Word Problems
- Time Word Problems
- Measurement Conversions
It allows them to create a attractions for their theme park and write down the lengths, heights, and time of rides. It allows them to create concession stands with food and menu items and prices for each. Students can then use all that information to create word problems and an answer key on the various concepts listed above.
I have used all of these projects with my 4th grade classes the past 3 years, and they absolutely love it! It is a great way to review concepts before the Georgia Milestones, a fabulous extension project, or a great way to still have kids practice 4th grade standards through an engaging project after the Georgia Milestones!
