This a fun, real world activity for students to learn how to budget at a restaurant while at the same time use their mathematical skills in order to calculate their food, tax, and gratuity. Students are given a $50.00 limit and the challenge is to spend as close to $50.00 as possible without going over. Students outline what they order and what a friend orders all while trying to not spend more than the $50.00. As a way to differentiate a second part of the activity introduces a coupon to the restaurant and students then have to figure out the new total. At the end of the activity there are reflection and assessment questions. You can pick a restaurant and bring in copies of the menu for students to use or you can print off the menus from online.
