Looking for a fun way to review some basic math skills like fractions, percents, simplifying integers? This treasure hunt will incorportate movement in the classroom while reviewing some important skills for students that indicate success in the classroom. Students can start anywhere in the room in pairs or small groups to solve a problem, when they find the correct answer they look for the problem sheet that has that answer. That will be the next problem they all solve. This continues until they circle back to the place where they started.
Prep: Teacher prints the problem sheets and hangs up in the classroom. Teacher needs to print double sided answer sheet with worksheet for students.
This is a self-checking activity. If students solve a problem incorrectly, they will hit a dead end and have to find their mistake to continue.
12 problems each on separate sheet to hang around the room
Answer sheet for students to record answers
Student worksheet to show work
How I check answers and see which problems caused the most trouble: I ask all students to stand up. I call out one of the problems and ask students to locate it on thie sheet. I then call out the next problem in order and ask them to remain standing if that is their next problem. Once students sit, they cannot stand up again. The last ones standing gets a reward of some type. When students start sitting down, I know how much I will have to review those concepts.
The problems are great for a beginning of the year 8th grade class, Algebra class or an excellent review mid year for a 6th or 7th grade class.
