### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Here are a dozen front-and-back practice papers for your students to complete independently, with a partner, or in a small group. The papers can be used in any order. You can even use the back as guided and independent practice in class, and send the front (with the directions) home for homework!

Each paper poses ten different kinds of math problems; every problem requires children to:
• Write an equation to solve the problem;
• Show their work in a work space (if they aren't using hands-on manipulatives);
• Write their answer in a complete sentence that answers the question (For example, "47" doesn't answer a question, so students must determine if the answer is, "Tara has 47 rocks," "Billy has 47 rocks," "Tara has 47 more rocks than Billy," "Billy has 47 more rocks than Tara," "Tara and Billy have 47 rocks altogether," "Tara gave Billy 47 rocks," "Billy gave Tara 47 rocks," "Tara had 47 rocks to start with," "Billy had 47 rocks to start with," etc.!)

I created these Math Story Problems pages because I needed them in my own classroom and because I got such a great response from my Reading for Math pages: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Reading-for-Math-Reading-Comprehension-of-Math-WordStory-Problems.

The Reading for Math pages were designed for second grade students in the first half of the school year. Those pages use simple numbers (the highest number on any page is 10) because the focus is on reading. After using many of those Reading for Math papers, my second graders could read and understand complex word problems and write a complete sentence to express their answer. I was thrilled!

Later in the school year, as we worked with two-digit numbers, I couldn't find any word problems that required the children to read and think about every problem, so I started writing these Math Story Problems. I found that my students had no difficulty understanding the problems (hooray!) and were able to practice composing/decomposing as they completed each page.
I hope you enjoy using these pages with your students!

Happy teaching! :) Amanda
