Teaching young children how to solve problems in mathematics cannot be achieved without them knowing what to look for. In solving math problems, the child is often required to establish procedures to know the “what and when” of the problems in order to apply the procedures. In these two downloadables posters, the young child will be able to:
• Identify & use procedures or plan of action
• Become familiar with the problem (what is being asked)
• Be able to understand the problem with the information given
• Identify a strategy or strategies and use the strategy correctly.
Remember problem-solving requires practice. The more practice they get, the better they will become in this area The following downloadable posters allow the child to use the charts as a reference tool to help with selecting a plan of action and/or selecting a strategy for solving their math problem.
