Math Tic - Tac - Toe
Set 9 players up to be the “stars” of the game. These students will sit in 3 rows of 3 to simulate a tic tac toe grid. I usually have the back row sit on stools, middle row sits in chairs, first row sits on floor or in beanbags. This way the students can see the actual grid in front of them.
two teams compete -- 3 players on each team
Team one picks a “star” (student in the grid)
-- teacher asks the chosen star a math question.
The Star gives an answer, either right or wrong --
team one must agree or disagree with the answer
If they agree and are correct they give the player an X or an O;
If they disagree they must give the correct answer to earn the space on the grid;
If they are wrong nothing is placed on the board and play moves to the other team.
Three Xs or Os in a row wins the game
The questions deal with measurement, basic facts, calendar, elapsed time, sports, money, etc.
