I teach middle school math, but this activity can easily be used for upper elementary and even high school students. It can even be applied to other subject areas to increase vocabulary awareness.
This is a great activity to use at the end of the year. It will help the students review all of the vocabulary words they have learned. Students will be surprised at how much knowledge they have gained through the year.
Students will create an ABC Vocabulary Booklet. Each page is a letter of the alphabet with definition and illustration. They will also complete a biography of a famous mathematician.
Included in this bundle: directions on how to complete the activity (for the teacher), and ABC "rough draft" worksheet for the students, A rubric for both the teacher and the student, 8 pictures of completed projects done by students;
After the booklets are completed you can extend this project - I have also included in this bundle: 3 vocabulary crossword puzzles, 2 vocabulary worksheets/test/quiz, and a vocabulary bingo template.
You will be surprised how "into" this project the students are. Great conversations about vocabulary words are heard and then the students have a homemade booklet to take home with them. Some students have given their projects to younger students, or left them with me for examples. They are proud of their work!
