Students will love this twist on reviewing math vocabulary at the end of the year! Virginia aligned math vocabulary for the entire year is split into three parts. Each part will be done separately.
First students write the definition of each word from their math notebook or text on the worksheet, draw a math model of the word. This could be a formula, labeled picture or example of the word to help them remember what the word means.
Once completed, students will play memory by matching the vocabulary word with its definition in groups of 3 or 4.
- 3 sets of math vocabulary memory cards (words and definitions separate)
- Student worksheet for each set
- Answer key for each set
- A differentiated version of the worksheet for lower level students with less writing
Another option is to play a version of pictionary with the class. Divide the class into two teams. Each team gets a set of word memory cards for students to pick a word and draw a math model on the board for their team to guess. Time the team for three minutes. When answers are correct, the drawer writes the vocab word under the picture, leaves the picture on the board, sits down, and another student from the team comes to pick and draw. At the end of three minutes, count the number of pictures the team answered correctly, then the other team goes. Play as many rounds as you like to determine a winning team.
