How It Works: Through repeated reading, students gain exposure to key math vocabulary words by reading math vocabulary word “frames” that target a specific math vocabulary word and sound. Each frame starts with a math vocabulary word (or sound) and eventually becomes a math vocabulary phrase. Exposure continues with the reading of funny and silly, yet simple, math poems. Finally, related math vocabulary word work printables may be completed as mini-assessments or as extension activities. *NOTE: reading of the math vocabulary word frames and poems is not meant to be timed. The main purpose of these frames and poems is to give students lots of practice with reading the same math vocabulary words (and sounds) over and over again.

Gentle Suggestions/Tips/Reminders:
**Ideally, this product has been created for 2nd grade students. However, with guidance and assistance, higher-level 1st grade students or lower-level 3rd grade kiddos can read the math vocabulary frames/poems and complete the word work printables.
**All poems included have been originally written by me!
**These activities are perfect for English Language Learners! These students can definitely benefit greatly from the consistent and repetitious nature of the math vocabulary word frames and simple poems.
**Although the math vocabulary frames, poems, and word work printables have been arranged alphabetically, you may choose to mix and match these activities should you feel the need to do so.
*There is a question located at the bottom of EVERY page of the vocabulary poem mini-book. These questions are meant to serve as a quick way of checking your students’ understanding of specific words/phrases that are located in each poem. NOTE: Students’ answers will vary for most of the questions, so an answer key IS NOT INCLUDED.
**Student covers are included. Each cover has been created in black and white for your convenience. Should you want to make “books” for each section of this product for your kiddos, you may wish to copy the pages back-to-back (2-sided) in order to save paper. This should equal out to about 14 pages for EACH book. If you’d like to make ONE whole book, it should be about 42 pages, with the pages copied back-to-back (2-sided).

***SUGGESTED USES: Most, if not all, of these activities may be completed during math centers or math workshop. Poem reading can also be assigned as morning/bell/seat work; can be used with a substitute or guest teacher; and during English Language Development (E.L.D.) instruction. Use the poem mini-book and the flashcards to help guide small group instruction/RTI (Response to Intervention)! The math vocabulary frames/poems can be used as fluency practice and as reading/literacy center activities. Additionally, you may wish to assign these activities as reading or math homework.

Happy poem reading using math vocabulary! :)
