Students think this activity is a game, like Clue or Mad Libs. You will quickly see this product as a tool that helps students write, understand, and master word (story) problems at several levels.
The basic idea is that there are three categories: people, places, activities. Students choose one of each. Then they choose one or more operations and numbers. They use all the components to write a reasonable (or hilarious) story problem.
The genius behind it is that students make the connection between real world actions and the operation associated with that action. Their comprehension goes beyond key words.
This activity is so flexible! The plan includes ways to introduce and differentiate for different grade levels, abilities, and groupings. The control is yours. Limit students' choices and model until they master and then watch them take off!
• Set of 16 Occupations (people) cards
• Set of 16 Settings (places) cards
• Set of 16 Actions
• Set of Operations: 16 cards each for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
• Lesson Preparation and Execution
• Description of How to Use
• Set of Container Labels
Now you don't have to create practice word problems because students will be creating, solving, then trading with friends to solve. Test Prep has never been so fun!
