I have other activities available for the Iditarod Race!
This worksheet contains 6 word problems related to real life situations based on the famed Iditarod Race held each March in Alaska.
Of the 6 problems, one is elapsed time, one is one-step multiplication (58 X 16), one is multi-step with the fractions of 3/4 and 1/2 being multiplied by a whole number, and the rest are multi-step involving multiplication, division and addition. The multiplication is one and 2-digit by 2-digit. The division uses basic fact knowledge.
1. Sled dogs wear booties to protect their feet during the race. One musher has a team of 16 dogs and each dog will need 4 booties to begin the race. If the booties come in packages of 12 at a cost of $125 per package, how many packages will the musher need to purchase for his dogs and what will the total cost be?
6. Musher Susan had 12 dogs at Ruby check point. One-third of her dogs ate ¾ of a bowl of food and the rest ate ½ of a bowl of food. How many bowls of food did the 12 dogs eat?
CCSS.Math.Content.4.OA.A.3 Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted.
PLEASE Let me know if you find any errors, so I can fix them. I have gone over and over these but you know how sometimes no matter how many times you read over something, an error can still get missed.
