This is perfect if your school uses the Marzano Framework for teacher evaluations.
There is a chart for each Common Core standard. The standard has been broken down into four levels of "I can" or "I know" statements. You can use the scales to help the students understand their progression towards mastery of the standards.
Flip charts are an easy way to have your scales ready to go at all times! You will always be ready for an impromptu evaluation. Just print and laminate the scales then punch holes in the top corners. You can use binder rings and walk-mounted hooks to display the scales as a flip chart. Flip to the scale you are working on that day and you will also have a display of your daily learning goal and essential question.
What makes these scales special?
These are not your generic, “Show me one through four fingers of how well you understand.” These scales describe what the child should be able to do at each of the different levels. The descriptive language helps the child to develop their metacognition of their own progress towards standards. Students hear the description of each level and then decide which level most sounds like them. Please see the preview to get a better idea of how the scales work. Each page of the flip charts will include: the standard, four level descriptions, goal for standard mastery, and an essential question. Here is an example of what is included using the W.1.2 standard.
