In this mouth-watering lesson, students will apply basic math skills such as addition, multiplication, division, percentage, and basic algebra to an exciting subject – food! Students will learn how to read nutrition labels, calculate how many calories there are in their favorite foods, the percent daily value of micro- and macronutrients, and ultimately how to make better decisions about what they eat.
This lesson also includes two special projects. The first project involves determining the total calorie count of a delicious molten chocolate cake recipe (included in this lesson plan). In the second project, students will calculate how many calories they eat in a given day.
