"Eliminate It, Revise It" is a great way to review all of that academic vocabulary while requiring students to justify their thinking as required by the Common Core.
I use this activity with math or science vocabulary, but it would be great for a variety of other subjects as well.
Place four words at the top, one of which doesn't belong. An example may be "square, rhombus, pentagon, rectangle". The word that doesn't belong is pentagon since it is not a quadrilateral. Students will then have to identify a word that DOES belong, give a title to the group, and justify their thinking. This activity promotes great discussions!
