*In "Sportstistics: Baseball-Level I," students examine eight different ways that math is embedded into baseball, including home runs, stolen bases, wins, and strikeouts. Each of the eight categories contains three questions (addition, subtraction, and a multiplication/multi-step/graph/writing/or higher level thinking question). There is also a timeline activity and three different "Read Around the Room: Baseball" activities, that combine reading, writing, and math skills. It is a great way to get kids out of their seats, reading and doing math!
*In "Sportstistics: Baseball-Level II," students to examine 15 different ways that math is embedded into baseball, including home runs, stolen bases, wins, strikeouts, and player contracts. Each of the 15 categories contains five questions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and graph/writing/higher level thinking question).
In "Fantasy Baseball Math Unit: 2016 Edition," In this students use a variety of math and problem solving skills and strategies to build a fantasy baseball roster, using a pretend $250 budget. They then use statistics to compete against each other's rosters to see who is the top "General Manager" in the class!
In "Fantasy Baseball Math Unit: All-Time Greatest Players Edition,"students once again work alone or in teams to create a fantasy baseball team based on the all-time greatest players at their respective positions. Players are ranked and valued based on career statistics and rosters are built using a $250 budget. Once rosters are created, students use the provided statistics to calculate scores for their teams.
There are several ways you can use these resources, including:
