Product Description
The 2016 Summer Olympics are right around the corner! What a great time to integrate real-world current events and math with your class!

This activity pack is full of interactive math activities that your students can complete throughout the course of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Included in the download is a United States medals tally sheet tracker, a little bit of history about the five chosen sports, how it is judged or scored, tables/charts for students to fill out while watching the event and a variety of math related questions.

Math topics covered include: adding and subtracting whole numbers, adding and subtracting decimals, geometry (angles), area, perimeter, volume, measurement conversions, and using data to answer questions.

If the students can’t watch the event(s) there is also the hyperlink to the official Olympic website where they can check statistics, scores, and watch videos and view photos. Each sport/event on the website has their own page filled with more information, videos, photographs, top athletes, etc. if your students wish to learn more about a specific sport.

Sports included in this activity pack are: swimming, beach volleyball, individual diving, gymnastics, trampoline and tennis.
Answer keys are provided for parts that apply- some will not as the students are required to record data during the games and then answer questions based on the real-life stats/numbers.

This is a great activity to use as a fun homework alternative, class math project or center (checking scores/statistics on classroom computers), individual/independent level 4 project, etc.

It is not grade specific although it would be best to use for 4th-6th grade as the math concepts are geared more toward that ability level. (Higher ability level 4th grader through lower ability level 6th graders)

Aligned to: Texas Standards: 4.4A, 4.4H, 4.5D, 4.6C, 4.8B, 4.4F, 5.4H, 5.9C, 5.9A, 5.7A, 5.3B, 5.3C
