This packet includes 4 different math activities:
The idea for the More /Less/ Same game came from Teaching Student-Centered Mathematics Grades K-3 by John A. Van de Walle and LouAnn H. Lovin.
Each student lays out the word cards. They should be SAME, MORE, and LESS. There are picture cards. Students take one picture card and place it over the SAME card. Students use counters to show the same number, more than that number, and less than that number.
The next activity is Skip Counting by 5's. There are snowflake cards for numbers 5-100. Students can use a pocket chart to put the numbers in order or they might lay out the cards on a table and put them in order.
The idea for Race to the Top also came from Teaching Student-Centered Mathematics Grades K-3. One gameboard is needed for two players. Players take turns rolling a number cube. Each time a player rolls, he puts that many counters in one of the columns. The object is to fill all of the columns with counters. The columns need to be filled exactly. For example, if one column only has 3 spaces left, but the child rolls a 4, he cannot fill that column. You could use mini marshmallows instead of counters.
The number cubes are to be used for addition practice. Students will need either a number cube or picture cube along with the addition cube. They roll the two cubes and then write down the number sentence and solve.
