Get your kids in the math-mind at the beginning of the year with this fun activity. (Bonus: you have some student work to hang up at that Meet the Teacher night!)
Included is a template for a pennant for your class to create their very own “Math in Real Life” banner.
Each student receives a blank pennant (best to print on cardstock). They write about a time, place, situation, etc where they experience math in the real world. They use the remaining space to draw a picture of what they listed at the top.
On the back of their pennant, have students describe in detail how their situation they chose shows how math is used in real life.
Included are blank pennants, “Math is Everywhere” pennants to hang with the others.
