The protocol will encourage and support students to ask higher order questions, build on each other’s thinking, enrich the conversation by providing next steps to their peers, extend the discussion by sharing different ways the problem can be solved, and make connections. Students can have the opportunity to agree with their peers or challenge one another’s thinking by using their mathematical reasoning to respectfully disagree.
