# Mathematical Practices Standards Self Assessment Checklists

### Description

This set of 9 checklists helps teachers begin to familiarize their students with the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the behaviors and skills needed to be successful mathematicians. Self-assessment is a key part of getting students involved with their own learning and better understanding our expectations for them.

**The Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice are extremely rigorous, and students in grades 3-5 should be expected to demonstrate a higher level of math thinking than ever before. But do the students know what they mean?**

These math standards can most definitely be approached in a developmentally appropriate way for intermediate students—but do need to be explicitly taught and modeled. This resource gives you the checklists (in two formats--black and white and color) and teaching suggestions and ideas for how to really help your students understand the importance of these math practices.

** In addition to checklists for all 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice, this set includes an overall “Math Behaviors Checklist” for students to start self-monitoring those basic study skills that will make them more successful in math class.**

Making anchor charts to match, teaching mini-lessons, and using these checklists can help students understand that math is more than getting the right answer! I hope these help you and your students begin to make sense of the math practice standards. Math is power!
