(Math With Mrs. Vickmark)
Portions of the document have been redacted for the preview version.
This project was designed as an introduction to an Applied Math course, but I would feel comfortable using it at any mathematics level (preferably middle to high school). The primary purpose is to help students understand what it means to communicate clearly and effectively in mathematics. I also used the project as a lead-in to my Project Journals (see "Mathematics Project Journal" documents if interested), but this portion could easily be omitted if not suitable for your classes.
COMPONENTS / INFORMATION:
The project is really student-led, so there is not much teacher preparation necessary, other than printing and organizing the hard copies of the project parts and setting up the LEGO's. I gave the groups each part of the project as they got to it, rather than all at once (this helps to keep the purpose and format secret until the reveal is necessary). Some portions are prepared on half sheets (cut along the dividing line provided), while others are full sheets.
1) Printed Project Sheets
I spent about a week on this project at the beginning of the year, but this project could easily be cut shorter or extended to fit your needs.
