This printable /photocopiable booklet is suitable for children who are learning English but also for native English speakers. The four shapes introduced are circle, square, rectangle and triangle. There is a reference page at the beginning which is useful if pupils need to be reminded of shape names or spellings. Colours are revised and a colour reference sheet is also included.
This booklet provides opportunities to develop the four skills of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.
Worksheets include, sentence completion and complete simple sentence construction to describe the name of the shapes and colours used. Other worksheets involve reading a simple sentence which has shape and colour vocabulary, then drawing the appropriate shape and using the correct colour.
A 'I have.. Who has..?' game provides opportunities for listening and speaking plus reinforcing the targeted vocabulary. (44 cards)
The final activity uses two dice: one has shapes, the other colours.
Children take turns at throwing the dice and selecting the appropriately coloured shape, after naming the colour and shape. A page is provided with ideas for picture creation but children can make up their own pictures. Children can either cut out the shapes and stick on paper to make a picture or the shapes could be laminated for long term use. This activity allows for informal discussion between children about what they are making etc. If shapes or colours are unknown by players, other players can provide the correct vocabulary, thus reinforcing the targeted shapes and colours.
