Maths sorting activity and learning about properties of 2d shapes.
This activity helps children to name regular 2d shapes and sort them into their properties e.g by number of sides, corners or right angles. The lower ability are given a criteria to sort by e.g has 3 sides and not 3 sides. Tasks are differentiated for lower ability SEN and they have to match shapes to classroom environment objects
They then move onto sorting 3d shapes and identifying their properties into a table. There is a fun game called what am I whereby they identify the hidden 3d shape using clues given. Children can go onto creating their own what am I? and play with a partner. There are opportunities for teachers to assess the learning at the end of the unit.
