Number sense is an important skill for all early learners to develop and master. It is the foundation for all mathematical thinking and the base for more complex computations. To develop a sound number sense, children need have fluidity and flexibility with numbers.
It is also essential that children are able to instantly recognise numerals and understand that numerals represent different a collection of items. This game explores numbers 1- 6 in a variety of contexts to promote automatic recognition and flexible thinking in number.
This resource is a fun, hands on game that can be played in small groups, pairs or individually. Each child has a turtle game board and a set of turtle shell pieces. On their turn children roll the dice and place the corresponding shell piece onto the game board. The winner is the first person to have all the shell pieces on the game board. The teacher can provide the small group with the same shell pieces, or provide individual students with specific shell pieces to target areas of need.

Included in the download is a blank black and white copy of the turtle game board and shell pieces so that the game can be further differentiated based on student needs.
