This is a simple outline that can be used during the reading of the novel Matilda. I did this activity when we were about half way through with the book.
My students each began with their own copy. They wrote their own name at the top and then in the Matilda box. I set the timer for 40 seconds and everyone filled out the Matilda box. (They drew pictures, wrote descriptive adjectives, etc) Then, they each passed their papers to the right and wrote their name in box number 2 of the new paper in front of them. They were now responsible for filling out box number 2 for their neighbor. This process continued on in 40 second rotations. Students were held accountable because they had to write their name in box that they were completing. Eventually, the papers found their way back to the original owner. My students loved the idea of rotating papers.
