This worksheet was created to check students understanding of matrix vocabulary as well as basic operation skills.

Vocabulary required: Dimensions, Square, Row & Column Matrices, Transpose.

Basic Skills required: Adding, Subtracting, and Scalar Multiplication. Use of variables and how to solve for variables algebraically.

Directions: "In this assignment you will create and solve a matrix problem that meets the set of given guidelines. An example is provided below to assist you.
Example: Create an addition problem with 2 x 2 matrices. Reminder: don’t forget to solve it." (See preview for the picture of the example provided.)

There are 8 problems. Here are some samples:
1) Create a subtraction problem a 2 x 3 matrix.
5) Create a problem that combines scalar multiplication and addition with a column matrix.
6) Create a problem that uses subtraction and at least two variables.

An answer key is not included because each student's creation will be different. In my classroom, I have students trade papers and analyze someone else's work to identify mistakes or misconceptions.
