Matter Comprehension and Response Pack

Here are some short reading passages and response pages to compliment your Science unit on Matter. You get:

- 9 one page information texts about basic concepts of matter

- 9 response pages, one for each concept

- a booklet title page

- 11 color teaching posters to introduce each concept

The information pages are written for readers at the 2nd grade level, but could be adapted to higher or lower levels. Vocabulary words that you may wish to preteach are given at the top of each page. These pages can be used to build fluency, as kids can read the page 3 times and color a water drop each time they read.

Each comprehension page follows a similar format, so kids can work independently. Each page has 3 questions about the text. Kids are asked to highlight the evidence in the text where they find the answer to each question, and then print their answer. A drawing activity helps kids demonstrate their comprehension.

The concepts covered are: matter, solids, liquids, gases, properties of matter, mixtures, melting, freezing physical changes, and chemical changes
