Pure Substance-A substance in which there is only one type of particle.
An Element- A pure substance that cannot be separated into simpler substances by physical or chemical means.
Elements are separated by similar characteristics.
Individual elements are represented by its element symbol, number of protons (which is the same number of electrons) and its atomic mass.
To find the neutrons, Atomic Mass-Protons=Neutrons
All known elements are represented on a special table called The Periodic Table of Elements
Metals-Elements that are shiny and are good conductors of heat and electric current.
Nonmetals-Elements that are dull (not shiny) and that are poor conductors of heat and electric current.
Metalloids-Elements that have properties of both metals and nonmetals.
