Using Matter flashcards students will be introduced to or review major concepts learned in the unit nature of matter. Each card provides a basic definition and image(s) that provides a visual that make the concept clearer.
Students can work in groups of four to make the game more interactive and effective. Each group can select a leader who keeps up with the flashcards and scores. Students will take turn to define the words.
Included with the flashcard is a Q&A card used to solicit questions from students and answers from classmates. The teacher is the facilitator and the green light that allow students to move on to the next question.
The activity is aligned with the science standard: S8P1.a, b, and f.
S8P1. Students will examine the scientific view of the nature of matter.
a. Distinguish between atoms and molecules.
b. Describe the difference between pure substances (elements and compounds) and mixtures.
f. Recognize that there are more than 100 elements and some have similar properties as shown on the Periodic Table of Elements.
