PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this inquiry activity is for students to prepare their own imitation Silly Putty polymer and to observe the properties of a polymer as they make their own.

About This Product
The inquiry activity is set up in the format of a guided inquiry lab and includes asking the students to read a excerpt of research, create a hypothesis, follow procedures including measuring and mixing of materials, list five observations, and write a conclusion.

I have used this in my 7th grade class during my chemistry unit that reviews properties of matter and introduces students to physical and chemical changes.

This product contains:
*a two page inquiry activity student worksheet
*bag labels for students' polymer creations to be sent home

Additional materials you will need to complete this lab include:
Elmer’s Glue-All (25 ml), Food Coloring, Paper or Plastic Cups, Water, Small plate or trays, Popsicle Stick, Plastic Baggies small Graduated Cylinders, stirring rods, scale, 4% Sodium Borate Solution, 5mL (4 g sodium borate Borax)

The students enjoy the opportunity to pick their own colors for their polymer!
