Because no chemical change occurs when a mixture is created, each substance in the mixture has the same chemical makeup it had before the mixture formed.
All mixtures are separated by physical means. Some mixtures are easy to separate.
Distillation-A process that separates a mixture based on the boiling points of the components.
Magnets can be used to separate a mixture of the elements iron and aluminum.
Centrifuge-Separates mixtures by the densities of the components.
Mixtures are formed using any ratio of components.
Solutions-A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances uniformly dispersed. It appears to be a single substance.
Solute-In a solution, a substance that dissolves in a solvent.
Solvent- In a solution, the substance in which the solute dissolves.
