This is a 770+ slide PowerPoint presentation with built-in class notes (red slides), lab activities built right in with set-up, questions and answers, video links, built-in quizzes with answers, 7 pages of follow along worksheets, 3 page homework / classwork, lesson notes, answer keys, several pages of follow along classwork sheets, and much more. Also included is an end of lesson PowerPoint review game of 120 slides with answers and template.
This PowerPoint begins describing what Matter is, and describes compounds. A step by step concept map then unfolds. Law Conservation of Matter is then described and a neat activity with a burning candle is described. A digital balance is needed. Simulated data is presented if your class period is running short of time or your scale cannot measure a decrease in mass. Another really great activity that involves Alka-Seltzer tablets, water, and plastic bags. Students measure the water and Alka-Seltzer separately, and then add the Alka-Seltzer to the bag and seal it quickly. They note the reaction, make predictions about the weight after the reaction and then reweigh to find that the weight hasn't changed / Law Conservation of Matter. Follow-up questions and answers are provided. Kinetic Molecular Theory is described in a step by step slide sequence. An activity that has students observe properties of solids, liquids, and gases. The states of matter are then described with a focus on molecular movement. Students are also introduced to Plasma at this time. BEC's are briefly mentioned (Bose-Einstein Condensates) and video link provided. A neat activity has students guess the state of the Matter from a series of pictures. A quiz 1-10 has students guess the state of matter looking at a picture. Most pictures are of the molecular level. Answers are provided after the quiz. The question is previewed before the answer is revealed so the teacher can call upon students. Dark Matter is mentioned briefly and optional PowerPoint provided in activities folder. A neat activity has students put a Hershey Kiss in their hand. They then participate in a number of activities. All the while the Hershey Kiss is melting. This leads into Physical Change. The students will have the Hershey Kiss in their hand for a long period of class and it is always interesting. Physical Change is described in a series of neat slides with visuals. A step by step drawing shows the vocabulary associated with Physical Change from s-l-g-p and p-g-l-p(Melting, Evaporation,Ionization - Deionization, Condensation, Freezing) Nucleation sites are described. An activity has students use hot plates and record the temperature of ice water to gas, completing a graph along the way. Questions and latent heat are described with answers. An ice cream making activity is described where students make ice cream with plastic bags, ice, salt, and basic ice-cream ingredients. Directions / recipe, questions and answers are provided. A compression of a solid, liquid, and gas demonstration is provided. Chemical change is described and series of simple demonstrations are provided. (Vinegar and Baking Soda) (Electroylsis). The six types of chemical reactions are described in a step by process with helpful visuals. A short quiz wiz is provided about these chemical reactions. This is a really neat PowerPoint with many exciting hands-on activities. This PowerPoint blends important notes with helpful learning activities. A review concludes the lesson bundle for a fantastic review.
This PowerPoint includes critical notes (Red Slides), exciting visuals, challenge questions, activities with directions and more. Text is usually placed at the top of the slide so it can be read from all angles of a classroom. Color coded slides, as well as a shade technique is used to increase student focus and allows the teacher to control the pace of the lesson. These PowerPoints are meant to be interactive as possible and ask many questions, provides built in review opportunities, explains directions to activities, and much more. Transition effects are rarely used.
